Insurance
Rating
Homeowners in District 11 currently enjoy a
Class 8 fire insurance rating, which the
department earned from the State Rating Bureau in January of 2000
through extensive
preparation and testing.
In February of 1998, we worked for and earned a Class 9 rating, which
resulted in an
average drop of 15-24% in homeowner insurance premiums. In
November of that same
year - in an overwhelming 74% vote of confidence - Fire District 11
voters approved a 2
mil tax proposal that provided funds for us to purchase a new pumper,
which was a
mandatory requirement from the Mississippi State Rating Bureau to
achieve the Class
8 rating.
Two months later
– with the assistance of our mutual aid fire departments - we
successfully completed the Class 8 water flow test. We then began a
year-long process to
acquire the new pumper, which arrived at Carriere Fire Station 1 on
January 7, 2000. The Rating Bureau then returned and completed the
remainder of its inspection, which included examination of training
records, emergency run reports, and checking other requirements. The
new Class 8 rating lowered the homeowner insurance premiums for most
District residents an average of 18-25% below the previously lowered
rate resulting from the Class 9. We are very proud to make
these cost savings possible for our citizens!!!
